What is StoodThere all about?

Hello, and a massive welcome. StoodThere.com represents a very simple idea - it’s a place were you can make a list of really interesting places, add pictures and information, and then share that list with everyone else.

We’ve spent a good few months putting this site together, so it’s satisfying to know you've come to visit. Hopefully, you will have a good look around, learn how to get the best from the site, and become part of the community.

Where to start

We'd appreciate if you could take a few moments to register first. You'll then be able to use all the features on the site

What can I do?

Vote - vote for your favourite places on any of the lists. Browse - look at the photos, read about a place, see who has StoodThere. Add Photos - add your picture to a place, show the world you've StoodThere. Comment - share your comments or information about a place or list. Share - bookmark your favourite lists, places, and photos to share with others.

Other cool stuff to do

Once you're familiar with the site, you might want to create some places and lists that are more personal to you. Create - share your own, unique favourite places with the rest of the world. Make A List - make a list of places that are important to you.

Vote

You can vote on things within the site, including photos, the places in lists, and even lists themselves. Anything you see tagged with this icon:

Add a photograph

A picture tells a thousand words. One of the unique aspects of StoodThere is that the places connect users through their photographs. There are detailed instructions on how to share your photos, available on how to do this on the how it works page.

Comment

You can currently comment on any item of the site. That is, photos, places, lists and other users profile pages. To add a comment, look down to the bottom of the page. If you are logged in you should see a comment box. Type into the box, click submit, and hey presto, you've left a comment.
If you leave a comment, the owner of that page (profile, photo or place) will be notified by email. You can delete comments later if you wish (but we'd rather you didn't). If you've got an interesting fact, or top tip about a place, comment!!

Compete

Some of us have a competitive streak. Why not race a few friends to complete a list? Race to collect photos of the landmarks in your city? Or perhaps a race to the two furthest points in one day? If you make one that's unique, we'd love to hear about it. Email james@stoodthere.com

Share

Each photo, place, and list has a bookmarking option on the sidebar. This allows you to share the page on other social media platforms. We currently have direct linking for Facebook, Digg, Reddit, and StumbleUpon.

Create A Place

Why would I want to create a place?

We're very sure that most of the coolest places aren't necessarily the most famous. For that reason, you'll probably want to add your own to the site. Got pictures of your favourite hike? Tell us where it is, then add the photos. Then other users can find your new place, and add their photos to it too, and it will be available to add to lists.

We've got quite a detailed instruction on how to add a new place to the site, over on the how it works page.

Make A List

There may already be a list of places and photos that you've completed, and are willing to share. Or you might want to compete with some friends on finishing a list that will bring you personal glory and bragging rights for the rest of the year. No matter how big or small your list is, you can create it from your profile, and add existing places, or the ones you've dreamed up yourself.

If you feel like giving it a go, there are detailed instructions on creating lists over on the how it works page.

And finally

Might I congratulate you on reading to the bottom of the page. If you're still looking for ideas, how about..,

  • Every Restaurant in your city (what a cool vote thing that would make)
  • The Most interesting places for a day out with children
  • The collection of tourist attractions in your local area
  • The list of the world’s greatest bridges.
  • Every person at a wedding adding their photos of the bride and groom to a collective list. (what a great wedding present that would be)
  • A list of every marathon or pop concert ever held where everyone can add a photo.
