Until you have done it you can have no idea how dramatic the Grand Canyon is in the flesh so to speak. The fact that you can walk right to the edge (and over if you are not too careful) is just amazing in this world of molly coddled, litigation insanity. To stand at the spot shown in this photograph was indeed quite something though. I do not have a great fear of heights but the magnitude of the drop just a few inches from your feet and the effort to look accross the void at the camera was sometimes too much. Your body seems to sway and your legs begin to feel numb and shake but my word what an amazing place to stand. Until this standing on the top of Ayers Rock was probably my best ever (with respect to the Australian Aboriginals who have now closed the Rock for climbing at least as it is sacred sight). The Grand Canyon though has to be my Stood There winner.
